OUR MISSION IN ACTION
We provide accessible, nonpartisan education about laws, regulations, policies, institutional practices, and governmental processes that affect individuals' rights as students, parents, patients, families, and consumers. Through accurate information, civic education, and practical resources, we help individuals understand their rights, evaluate information and policies, and participate respectfully and meaningfully in civic processes.
VISION
We envision a society in which every person has meaningful access to clear and reliable information about their rights in education and healthcare; understands the principles of informed consent, consumer protection, and civil rights; and has the knowledge and confidence to participate effectively in decisions that affect themselves, their families, and their communities.
We envision communities where institutions are transparent and accountable, individuals are treated with dignity and respect, and civic participation is informed by facts, rights, evidence, and constructive dialogue.

Our work is centered around four areas:
Rights and
Protections Education
We help individuals and families understand the rights and protections available to them in education and healthcare, including informed consent, individual autonomy, civil rights, privacy, equal treatment, due process, accessibility, and consumer protections.
Our goal is to help people know their rights, ask informed questions, and better navigate the systems and institutions that affect them.
Government and
Public Policy Education
We monitor and explain legislation, regulations, government actions, institutional policies, and public issues that may affect education, healthcare, informed consent, consumer protections, and civil rights.
We make complicated policy easier to understand by explaining what is happening, what it means, and where to find reliable information.
Civic Engagement
and Navigation
Understanding your rights is only part of the equation. People also need to know how to navigate the systems designed to protect them.
We teach people how to find public records, understand legislative and regulatory processes, communicate with public officials and institutions, participate in public meetings, submit public comments, and understand available complaints, grievances, review, and oversight processes.
Research
and Community Education
We conduct research and develop educational content, newsletters, webinars, trainings, town halls, public forums, and practical resources that make complex information more accessible.
